Steps of Hope: A Walk in the Park for Mental Health Awareness

Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY, May 19, 2019

A rainy day? Yes. But a gloomy day – far from it! The wet weather certainly didn’t dampen our spirits for our inaugural walk for mental health awareness, Steps of Hope.

May is nationally known as Mental Health Awareness Month and to celebrate, MHANC held an event to foster and support safe, stigma-free dialogue about important mental health issues.

Steps of Hope was created as an awareness walk open to anyone who wanted to acknowledge the importance of mental health awareness. Ultimately, being a walk in the park, participants were invited to share steps of hope together, understanding that recovery is not only a possibility, but a very real outcome.

Although the day saw little sunlight, a fantastic time was had all around. Opening remarks from Executive Director Eda Franco, and Director of Business Development Fern Schanback set a fun yet thoughtful tone for the day. It was clear that everyone who showed up cared dearly about the different issues that were addressed.

Also in attendance were County Executive Laura Curran and County Comptroller Jack Schnirman who shared words of encouragement and support for MHANC’S activities, and presented the Agency with an official Citation for Mental Health Awareness Month. The day ended with three fantastic raffles courtesy of Soul Cycle, Passione Restaurant and Delicacies of Roslyn, NY.

MHANC would like to extend its thanks to everyone who helped make Steps of Hope possible including our fantastic sponsors Preferred Pharmacy, eVero, Bellmore Pharmacy and Accolade. We hope to see you at our next event!
