Steps of Hope 2019

May 18, 2019
Eisenhower Park, Field 1

It was a gorgeous day on May 18 for the MHANC’s second annual Steps of Hope walk for mental health awareness. Thank you to everyone who came out and spent the afternoon with us at Eisenhower Park.

Before we began walking, our opening ceremony and activities were the perfect opportunity for everyone to relax, have a snack, purchase some raffle tickets and take in the sunshine. Interim Executive Director Jeffrey McQueen welcomed us all with a dynamic speech that was a call-to-action, stressing the need for everyone to take responsibility and be a stigma fighter against the often negatively portrayed mental health landscape commonly seen today. MHANC was honored to be joined by Legislator Laura Schaefer (of District 14) and Assembly Woman Taylor Raynor (of District 18) who came up on stage to give heartfelt talks about the importance of mental health awareness, access to treatment, and the elimination of stigma. PROS staff member Pam Rivera, accompanied by Joe Rivera and Nick Mercado, next preformed an incredible rendition of the song “Gotta Be” originally made famous by Des’ree. Our opening ceremony was completed by the drawing of the raffles and some light stretching to prepare us to walk. At this time Jeff once again rallied everyone together before we all headed off to walk through beautiful park.

We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors AFSP, Blaze Pizza, Come Together Yoga, H2M architects + engineers, Long Island Crisis Center, Nails by Joann, Response of Suffolk County, RVCRyde, SomaWell, Sportset Health and Fitness Club, and the T.U.L.I.P.S. for their enthusiasm and contributions to the day.

We would also like to thank the Steps of Hope planning committee for their dedication and support to ensuring a successful day! And thank you to the volunteers, and who joined us as well.  Your energy and involvement made for one successful – and memorable – Steps of Hope this year! We will see you next May!

Please take a look at some of the photos from the day!
