What a Diffence a Friend Makes: Campaign

The national Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) finds our hard work in Nassau County significant enough to tout in their recent email news report on the Campaign for Mental Health Recovery. In a section called Collaboration, the report cites the Mental Health Association of Nassau County as a partner in efforts to encourage, educate, and inspire people to support their friends who are living with a mental illness.

Since springtime, local presenters have brought alive the message of “What a Difference a Friend Makes” to more than 100 people at:

  • Teens’ and parents’ support groups
  • The Children’s Mental Health Advocacy Committee of Nassau, and
Junior and senior classes at Hewlett High School

The MHA also wrote to 320 educators in Nassau about the campaign. Since then, five districts have requested and received 200 additional booklets for use in their schools. And finally, Cablevision donated airtime for the localized PSA, “Video Game,” to reach 823,000 Long Island customers.
