Real Hurdles - Video and Lesson Plans

In a brief video, Real Hurdles tells the story of Derrick Adkins, a Nassau County resident who achieved the ultimate athletic achievement--an Olympic Gold Medal--and then almost took his own life due to clinical depression.  In a fast-paced format, Real Hurdles chronicles his struggle and recovery from depression and helps teens identify signs of depression in their friends and themselves.  The video comes with a teacher's guide with activities and other material.  Produced by the MHA of Nassau County and distributed nationally.  
      A copy can be borrowed for one-time use from the Media Center or can be purchased for $50.00.
